THE
KARL WALKER
MEMORIAL SHIELD
The Karl Walker 'Against All Odds' Memorial Shield is an Annual Five-a-Side competition where teams from each Centre of the City of Sunderland College , that is, Hylton, Bede, Tunstall and Shiney Row, play for a Shield which is displayed in the Shiney Row Centre. The first round consists of two legs. The teams with the most goals on aggregate go through to the next round and the competition continues as a knockout. The first round games are played for 10 minutes each way, increasing to 20 minutes each way for the remaining rounds and 30 minutes each way for the semi-final and final. Games take place at the Bede Centre and the final is played at the Crowtree Leisure Centre on the last Thursday in February each year. Proceeds from the competition are donated to the The Karl Walker Trust. The first competition in 2001 was won by The Untouchables and raised £250. View images from the final.
